Covington residents can acquire one voucher a month that allows them to drop off waste at the Covington transfer station for free. That includes yard waste, bulk items like furniture and carpet, bags of trash, scrap metal, recycling and up to four tires on or off the rim. Look for the yard waste, tire, scrap metal and recycling dumpsters outside the transfer station building. Material placed in these dumpsters will be recycled.
Drop-off vehicles can be cars, vans, SUVs, “normal-sized” pickups and trailers up to 8 feet long. No box trucks, flatbed trucks, or pickups reframed with sides that greatly increase the height of the bed.
Chemicals, batteries, electronics, hazardous materials, and/or construction debris are not allowed.
To acquire a voucher, contact the City Solid Waste & Recycling Division at (859) 292-4417 and make arrangement to pick it up at Covington’s Public Works offices (this is a new location, starting Sept. 3, 2024). You will need a valid ID with a Covington address.
The Covington Transfer Station is operated by Rumpke Waste & Recycling and is located at 4399 Boron Drive. Hours are 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays and 8 a.m. to noon on Saturdays, although those hours sometimes change during major holidays. (See the “news” section of the City’s website or the Covington Facebook page for any changes).
