Madlot opens Summer Series this Thursday with music + bikes + urban gardens
This Thursday, May 21 kicks off the first in series of monthly summer events hosted by Renaissance Covington at the parking lot at W. 7th Street and Washington St. in Covington, now known as Madlot. There will be live music, a farmers market, food and drinks, and free bike tune ups from 4-8 p.m.
Madlot is the parking lot that was creatively transformed into an outdoor performance park. Last summer, Renaissance Covington and MKSK headed up the transformation, painting the lot, installing lights, and building a stage out of pallets.
Local musicians Kyle Knapp and Margaret Darling will play from 5-8 p.m. The Madlot Summer Series will feature different musicians the third Thursday of every month, from May through October.
The Covington Farmers Market, another program of Renaissance Covington, will also set up at the monthly Madlot events. The Farmers Market currently operates on Saturday mornings, at 3rd Street between Greenup St. and Scott Blvd. The Madlot Summer Series will be the premier of the once monthly weekday market. WIC and SNAP are accepted.
Other partners such as Baker Hunt Art and Cultural Center, Grow the Cov, and the Kenton County Extension will be on site to offer insights and opportunities for urban agriculture. Reser Bicycle Outfitters will also be set up, offering basic bike tune ups for anyone who brings their bike to the event.
These events are free and open to the public.
