COVINGTON, KY - The upcoming holidays may have some effect on trash and recycling collection schedules in Covington.
Trash and recycling collection scheduled for Christmas Day and New Year's Day will be delayed by one day.
Residents and businesses whose collection day falls on Friday, December 25 will be serviced Saturday, December 26. Residents and businesses whose collection day falls on Friday, January 1 will be serviced Saturday, January 2.
In addition, a trash amnesty week is scheduled for the week of December 28 in anticipation of the busy holiday season.
"Studies show that the average family produces 25 percent more waste during the holidays," Sheila Fields, Solid Waste Coordinator, said. "We want to make sure our residents can properly dispose of this extra material."
During the trash amnesty week, residents can dispose of up to three large items or 10, 30-gallon bags of trash in addition to the trash contained inside the City-issued trash carts.
Residents are not required to use a City-issued green sticker during the amnesty week.
Residents should still prepare large items for collection. For example, mattresses, box springs and upholstered furniture should be wrapped in plastic and Freon should be properly removed from appliances.
Residents are also reminded that curbside recycling is available at no additional cost, and is a great way to reduce trash. To sign-up for recycling, residents should contact Rumpke at 1-877-786-7537 or by emailing covington@rumpke.com.
