COVINGTON, KY - On Friday, April 21, the City of Covington celebrates the grand opening of Father Hanses Park and the completion of its Phase 1 improvements. Located in the Lewisburg neighborhood, featured renovations and amenities include the installation of playground equipment, benches, signs, and a picnic table with a small shelter (photographs featured below).
Working closely with the community to gather input and feedback, Parks & Recreation Manager Rosie Santos stated, “Based on a Health Impact Study conducted by the Health Department, we determined the Lewisburg neighborhood was in serious need of a park space both as a place for community to gather and for residents to have access to physical activity opportunities.
“As a result of the neighborhood’s response, we are optimistic the park is going to have a positive impact on the community.”
The City will begin Phase 2 park improvements before the end of the year. Improvements feature the installation of a single hoop basketball court. As the City continues to engage with Lewisburg residents, it will make the final determination as to whether a community garden is a desired component to the park.
