On Covington’s new energy, vision and ‘authenticity’

COVINGTON, Ky. - If you’re intrigued by the economic energy coursing through the City of Covington’s urban core and are thinking about moving to, investing in or visiting the City, then you’ll be interested in a recent taping of the cable television program “Getting Down to Business.”

City Economic Development Director Tom West recently was the guest on the half-hour show, during which he discussed a wide, wide range of timely issues, including City Hall’s vision for business development ... its priorities in the year ahead ... Covington’s hot real estate market ... new uses for historic buildings ... the use of public incentives ... the City’s wealth of 100-year-old businesses ... the focus on and benefits of locating workers downtown ... new efforts to develop Latonia and other neighborhood business districts ... and work with the City’s partners to create a more seamless experience for visitors to a new array of restaurants and bars.

West, a Covington resident himself, also discussed the value of preserving the City’s “authenticity”:

“What I like about Covington is we’re a little bit funky, a little bit edgy,” West said. “I like some of the urban grit that we have. Otherwise you’re operating in Disneyworld, and it doesn’t seem real.”

The show was filmed at TBNK Cable’s studio in Latonia. It was hosted by Pat Frew of the Covington Business Council. To listen, click HERE.
