The Risk Manager is responsible for leadership, innovation, governance, and management to identify, evaluate, mitigate, and monitor the City’s Safety and Risk. The Safety and Risk Specialist identifies and takes preventive steps to handle events that affect personnel safety and municipal liability specifically the financial impact of events for which the City, its officers, and employees may be liable. Requires interaction with all staff throughout the City, contractors working for the City, and external agencies.
This position formulates, develops, and coordinates safety and loss control functions City-wide. The Risk Specialist designs and directs programs to reduce accidents, occupational illnesses, and exposure to long-term health hazards through safety-training of supervisors, managers and directors, planned inspections, skill training, first-aid care, emergency preparedness, proper job instruction, new employee indoctrination, physical protection, planned job observation, rules and practices, job analysis/procedures, disposal procedures, and protective equipment. When accidents occur, the Risk Specialist is responsible for identifying causes of past accidents in an effort to mitigate accidents from reoccurring.
