COVINGTON, Ky. - This weekend, the list of things to do in #LoveTheCov is brought to you by the letter “B.”
(OK, so we ripped off Sesame Street to find a common theme this week. It works.)
There’s Big Head Todd & the Monsters at the Madison Theater. Bodybuilding and big guns (aka big biceps) at the Convention Center. There’s Braxton’s Breeders’ Cup brew and viewing party. There’s the bike (mountain bike) demo at Devou Park trails. And, of course, lots of stuff that doesn’t begin with “B.”
Celebrating CGN
The public is invited to the annual celebration for the Center for Great Neighborhoods - one of those organizations that make Covington and its communities a stronger place.
It’s on Saturday at 4 p.m. and includes a look back at the Center’s 2018 accomplishments and awards for local and business leaders.
But the star of the show might well be the food, which will be made by the first graduates of the Center’s FreshLo Chef Fellowship Program.
Farmers Market now under roof
Covington’s Farmers Market has a new location under roof this weekend, at Braxton Brewing Co. on Seventh Street.
What hasn’t changed is the amazing goods for sale: Late-season produce, meat and eggs, and a big variety of creative and hand-made foods and goods, like bread and pastries, soaps and lotions, cashew butter, honey, candles and seasonings.
This Saturday will feature live music and libations from Second Sight Spirits as part of the “Farm to Bar” theme that marks every first Saturday of the month.
Hours are 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 27 W. Seventh St. Info,
MARKET.
Opening night at The Carnegie
It’s called “a rom-com for the digital generation” (i.e. romantic comedy to those whose lives revolve around computers, the Internet, gaming, Smart phones etc.).
Madhuri Shekar’s “In Love and Warcraft” opens this weekend at The Carnegie. For tickets and info,
THEATER.
Breeders’, Braxton and brew
Yeah, this is Northern Kentucky, but it’s still the Bluegrass, and the Bluegrass means horses, and horses - even horse racing - encompasses much more than the first Saturday in May.
... which is a long-winded, winding windup to the fact that there is a viewing party for the Breeders’ Cup this Saturday beginning at noon at Braxton Brewing Co. - which, btw, is the Official Craft Beer of the Breeders’ Cup World Championships.
And of course Braxton has crafted a special beer for the occasion. Info,
HERE.
Big arms, big brags
Kentucky Armwrestling, the premier arm-wrestling league in Kentucky, will hold the Kentucky Championships on Saturday at the Northern Kentucky Convention Center.
Weigh-ins start at 10 a.m. with many weight classes and different experience levels (and both arms). Women can also compete on a limited basis. (Trophies in the open classes, medals in the novice.)
