City Hall closed Monday for MLK Jr. Day

COVINGTON, Ky. – Offices at Covington City Hall will be closed Monday to honor the federal holiday marking the birth anniversary of civil rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Meanwhile, events honoring King, including two in Covington, take place throughout the three-day weekend. 

·         Saturday: A free breakfast and discussion revolving around King’s life and legacy begins at 9:30 a.m. at Our Savior (Catholic) Church at 246 E. 10th St. The focus of this year’s discussion is “white privilege.” Details, HERE

·         Sunday: The Racial Justice Film Series will show the film “Selma” at 1 p.m. at the Kenton County Public Library in Covington, followed by a discussion. The series is sponsored by the Kentuckians for the Commonwealth grassroots organization, and the discussion will be moderated by Michelle Slaughter. Info, HERE

·         Monday: The Northern Kentucky branch of the NAACP is hosting its 16th Annual Dr. Martin L. King, Jr. Community Outreach Luncheon beginning at noon at Newport Syndicate at 18 E. Fifth St. in Newport. The theme: “We Can’t Rest Now, The Stakes Are Too High.” Tickets are $40 and can be purchased by calling (859) 442-7476 or at the door the day of the luncheon.
