COVINGTON, Ky. - Yeah, it’s Super Bowl weekend ...but we’re not enthralled.
No. 1, our local team hasn’t been to the game since they started using leather instead of intestine to make the football. And No. 2, imagine come Monday telling a co-worker that “watching the game on TV” was the highlight of your weekend.
At least get out and watch the game at a cool place, and we provide a short list of places to do that below (and yes, we’re sure EVERY bar will have the game on, many of which aren’t listed below).
Better yet, go to a place that brags about NOT having the game on (also below).
And better yet still, do something memorable this weekend like taking in a belly dancing showcase ... seeing a concert showcasing the treble viola da gamba ... or drinking a Black Raspberry Chocolate Chip Milk Stout.
Hey, read on ...
Braxton’s & Graeter’s
Beer and chips. Beer and burgers. Beer and fries.
But beer and ice cream?
Starting Friday at 8 a.m., Braxton Brewing Co. - in partnership with Graeter’s Ice Cream - is celebrating the release of its Black Raspberry Chocolate Chip Milk Stout with a weekend of events that include live music, Sundae Funday Family Sundae Bar and of course the beer.
Belly Dancing showcase
Want to see a dance style of another sort that’s a lot harder than it looks?
Come check out the Twinkle Belly Dance Showcase at the Leapin’ Lizard Lounge in MainStrasse Village on Saturday evening (NOTE: It’s kid friendly).
It features Emily Marie Belly Dance, a professional in Raqs Sharqi/Egyptian dance forms based in Cincinnati, and lots of students with their teachers. There are workshops earlier in the day.
Bet you’ve never heard one of these
Gorgeous music, spiritual setting? Yeah, we’re in.
It’s “Petit Concert on a Petite Viole” on Sunday afternoon at Trinity Episcopal Church.
Hosted by Catacoustic Consort, the concert will feature a variety of music from the Renaissance and Baroque periods all to showcase what’s generally seen in the classical music world as a neglected instrument: the treble viola da gamba and Baroque harp.
Farmers Market
Yes, it’s winter. But this is Covington, and the Farmers Market here is year-round.
Typical wares include seasonal produce, bread, pastries, desserts, meats and eggs, hot soups, prepared salads, cold-pressed juices, natural body products, unique spice blends and rubs
and much more.
Check it all out - plus your Covington Farmers Market swag - 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday at Smoke Justis. Info,
HERE.
