How to report a pothole

Covington Public Works employees fixed these large potholes today on E. 15th Street between Scott Boulevard and Greenup Street.  At left is cement brick mason Gene Koehl. At right is driver Dan Bitter. Unseen and driving the truck is light equipment operator Paul Thompson.

COVINGTON, Ky. - The City of Covington's pothole repair crews were out again today, fixing the damage done to street surfaces by winter's freezing and thawing, road salt, plows, and traffic.

"As best we can, we're trying to stay ahead of the game," Public Works Director Rick Davis said. "Our crews have been hard at it, especially since the recent rain and last night's freeze proved to be a bad combination."

Davis said his department wants to hear about problem spots that pop up on Covington streets, but residents should keep two things in mind:

One, a lot of the primary roads in Covington are state routes that are maintained by the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet. This is a long list, but these include Ky. 16 (Pride Parkway, Winston Highway, and James Avenue); Ky. 17 (Madison Pike, Madison Avenue, Greenup Street and Scott Boulevard); Ky. 8 (Highway Avenue and 4th and 5thstreets); Ky. 1120 (12th Street); Ky. 25 (Dixie Highway, Main Street); and Ky. 3070 (Howard Litzler Drive). KYTC's regional office can be reached at (859) 341-2700.

Two, residents who want to report potholes on a City-maintained street should - instead of calling or emailing - use the City's iWorQ Service Request phone app/online reporting system to fill out a work order.

"That saves us a lot of staff time and actually gets the request into the system faster," Davis said.

Residents can also take a picture of the problem and attach it to their request.

Residents can sign up for iWorQ by downloading the app on their phone or by going to https://covingtonkycitizenengagement.portal.iworq.net/portalhome/covingtonkycitizenengagement. The "agency code" is Cov01. They also can access the portal through the "How Do I" system on the City's website, www.covingtonky.gov

Signing up takes very little time.
The "before" picture was not a pretty sight.
