COVINGTON, Ky. - Thanksgiving has turkey and stuffing. Valentine’s Day its iconic candy hearts. New Year’s Day has its pork and sauerkraut (Covington’s German roots talking), and the 4^th of July its deer burgers and goetta ’dogs (personal favorites).

 

And of course Easter has its Pappas eggs (you thought we were going to write “colored hard-boiled eggs,” but we’re continuing the Covington theme, you know, and oh those Opera Creams).

 

But no season is so closely associated with food as Lent.

 

Meaning, it’s fish fry time, everyone.

This one comes courtesy of the Black-n-Bluegrass Rollergirls, the behind-kickers at Northern Kentucky’s roller derby team. (For the uninitiated, roller derby is a marriage of rugby and chess, on wheels).

 

The team is hosting the 8^th Annual: Derby Does Drag event on Saturday at Molly Malone’s, meaning that, yep, BBRG athletes and their guests will be performing as Kings and Queens.

But given the sheer number of historic buildings in Covington (commercial and residential galore), and Covington’s involvement with this event, the NKY Restoration Weekend 2019 convention/workshop on Saturday is timely, relevant, and full of advice and help for rehabbers and other owners of old buildings.
