Tom Haggard was appointed tonight to the board of the Housing Authority of Covington.
COVINGTON, Ky. - A Covington native who has dedicated his career to education and helping people find jobs is the newest member of the Housing Authority of Covington’s board of directors.
Tom Haggard’s appointment was approved by a 5-0 vote of the Covington City Commission tonight for a term that expires March 13, 2021.
Haggard works at Brighton Center, where he oversees the Center for Employment Training, a nationally accredited post-secondary institution that provides short-term job training programs for in-demand career sectors.
Before that he worked at Covington Partners, most recently as its associate director, and also served as a national ambassador for the Afterschool Alliance’s Afterschool Ambassador program and local outreach coordinator for the Kentucky Department of Education’s 21st Century Community Learning Centers.
He also rebuilt the soccer program at Holmes High School as head coach for five years.
“Tom Haggard brings a deep knowledge of Covington and a professional passion for education and workforce skills that will be significant assets for the HAC board and residents,” said Covington Mayor Joe Meyer, who nominated Haggard.
The board oversees the operations and finances of the Housing Authority, which runs almost 1,000 units of public housing in Covington, including the City Heights, Latonia Terrace, and The Golden Tower communities.
Haggard said he looked forward to serving on the board.
“As a lifelong resident of Covington, I am passionate about ensuring our city is a thriving place for everyone,” he said. “A big piece of that puzzle is stable and affordable housing, so I am eager to get to work on behalf of our community."
Other members of the board are Bradie Bowen, Jennifer Holt, Brandon Mims, and Mayor Meyer.
