COVINGTON, Ky. - The City of Covington gained another police officer today, one that arrives with years of experience.

Steven Krieger, who has been an officer with Louisville Metro Police Department for almost seven years, was sworn in by Mayor Joe Meyer today during a short ceremony in the Covington City Commission chambers.

Covington Police Chief Rob Nader presented Krieger with his badge and said he would be patrolling Covington’s streets by summer.

“Since he is a lateral certified police officer, he will not need to go through the police academy,” Chief Nader explained. “He will spend the next several weeks training with veteran Covington police officers to learn our paperwork and processes, and most importantly our streets and community.”

Krieger has a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice with a minor in public relations from Eastern Kentucky University. He previously held jobs investigating fraud for a credit card company and as an armored guard.

His hire brings Covington’s police force to 113 sworn personnel, the Chief said.
