Performance art & paparazzi

COVINGTON, Ky. - This weekend has a performed/performing/performance theme.

It also features a decidedly feminine touch, what with Galentine’s Day (when did that become such a thing?), belly dancing, an exhibit of Cher’s fabulous beaded dresses, and a night at the cabaret - (not to be confused with Cabernet, which could also make its appearance at several events in #LoveTheCov this weekend).

And the winner is ...
Last week, the Super Bowl. This week, the Oscars.

Which is the bigger party? (Which is another way of asking, which crowd yells at the TV the loudest?)

Come find out at Rich’s Proper Food & Drink on Sunday during its Annual Oscars Party. Dress up and impress the paparazzi and staff photographers on the red carpet, fill out your ballots, and drink the themed drink specials.

Reservations and tickets, HERE.

Or, head to Keystone Bar & Grill, where they too will have themed drinks and ballots to fill out. Info, HERE.

Is that your Pique performance?
On one end, performing arts. On the other, performance art.

And whereas we all likely can define the latter (visual art with dramatic performance, where the performer is as much the art as is the message), you really need to experience it to understand and appreciate.

So head to Pique on Sunday to a) witness the “Goodbye Neoprene Performance (Neoprene Funeral)” performance; and/or b) try your own performance with prompts from the Fluxus Performance Workbook (or watch others).

Oh, and there’s a potluck and a screening too.

Put on Your Sunday Clothes
... also this weekend is “Jerry’s Girls: A Musical Venue,” hosted by Queen City Cabaret Cincy at The Carnegie.

“Jerry” is Jerry Herman, the legendary Broadway composer/lyricist. The show highlights music from his career, including “Hello, Dolly!,” “Mame,” “La Cage aux Folles,” and “Mack and Mabel.”

Shows are Saturday and Sunday, with a meet-the-cast ticketed event Saturday.

Info, HERE.

Ode to St. Galentine
Technically, Galentine’s Day isn’t until next week.

But Braxton is jumping the gun with its Galentine’s Day: Beers & Brunch event Saturday in the Loft.

It will feature a Belgian Waffle & Crepe Bar. And drinks (of course). And camaraderie.

Tickets, HERE.

Gypsys, Tramps & ... beads
Music icon Cher will be in concert in Cincinnati on April 7. But Cher’s glittering and glamorous beaded costumes are on display now at Behringer-Crawford.

Having opened this past Tuesday, the exhibit - “From Rituals to Runways: The Art of the Bead” - runs through May 10 with this weekend being the first.

The exhibit celebrates the art and integral roles that beads have played in society over the centuries, from prayer and devotion, to art, fashion and décor. (Oh, and there are many “beading events” over the next couple of months.)

Info, HERE.

Shimmies & shivers
For the second weekend in a row: Belly dancing.

This time, it’s a class at Warrior Spirit Wellness, taught Friday night. As the organizers of “Love Your Body Belly Dancing” say: “Come share the positive energy with us, learn to belly dance, and bring your favorite bottle of wine and a friend.”

Tickets, HERE.
