COVINGTON, Ky. - If you don’t instantly recognize the significance of Feb. 14, there’s no need to read on.
Because whether you look to Robert Herrick (“How love came in I do not know ...”), the Bible (“Set me as a seal upon your heart ...”), Shakespeare “Some Cupid kills with arrows, some with traps ...”), or AC/DC (“She was a ...”) for inspiration on the concept known as “love,” this weekend includes the day set aside by the world to celebrate it.
Here in #LoveTheCov, we have ideas:
Velvety red flower beetles
You could do dinner and a movie of course.
But if eating cheese, drinking wine, and “pinning” bugs in the middle of an oddities shop is more your idea of a romantic date, head to Hail Dark Aesthetics on Friday evening for the Valentine Beetles Mounting Workshop.
You’ll learn the techniques of preserving and mounting large velvety red flower beetles - i.e. Fornassinus russus - and you’ll get to take your creation home. (P.S. You don’t have to bring a date.)
Dinners & happy hours
If “traditional” Feb. 14 dates is more your style, there’s:
- Exquisite four-course dinner “experiences” at Hotel Covington, HERE, and the Met Club, HERE.
- Valentine’s Day Dinners at Keystone Bar & Grill, HERE, and Rich’s Proper Food & Drink, HERE.
- Crafts & Vines’ “Love in the Cov,” HERE.
- And Valentine’s Day Happy Hour at Mac’s Pizza Pub Mainstrasse, HERE.
Not the lonelinest number
And if you’re not “paired up” on Valentine’s Day, you can head to:
- Singles Night at Gypsys, HERE.
- Or CovWorx to listen to relationship coach/speaker Erica J. Houston talk about the ups and downs of dating and how you can get the most out of it, during “How to Date with a Vision,” HERE.
Cookies & beer
Some people eat their Thin Mints and do-si-dos with coffee. Others, with a Braxton brew.
But you gotta do it right. You can’t pick just any cookie and any Braxton brew.
Fortunately, Covington’s favorite brewery will be giving advice during the annual Girl Scout Cookie & Beer Pairing, this Saturday.
Get them together (the Girl Scout Cookie Pairing Flight) or buy the cookies by the box and beer by the 6-pack to take home. Info,
HERE.
RX ‘cabin fever’
Cabin fever is a real thing, especially in February. Or, as author Richard Louv calls it, “nature deficit disorder.”
No matter the name, here’s the cure: Help maintain the hiking trails at Covington’s Devou Park on Sunday during the Devou Third-Sunday Trailday.
Expect to get muddy, use your muscles, and feel good about yourself afterward. Oh, and there’s pizza at noon. Details:
HERE.
