COVINGTON, Ky. -- The area around the fallen officers memorial outside Central Police Headquarters at Madison Avenue and Police Memorial Drive recently got a comprehensive sprucing up, courtesy of an Urban Forestry crew from the City’s Public Works Department.
The work included pulling weeds, planting new shrubs, and spreading a new layer of mulch.
Meanwhile, Forestry cut down and dug out 10 problematic Bradford pear trees from the streetscape and planted more space-appropriate trees: columnar tulip trees along Madison and Sweetbay magnolias trees along Memorial Drive.
The memorial lists the names of officers who have died in the line of duty, including eight from the Covington Police Department, one from the former Covington City Marshal’s office, and one from the former Latonia Police Department.
