Fright night recycling

(EDITOR'S NOTE: This is another in a series of recycling tips from the City of Covington's Neighborhood Services Department, Solid Waste & Recycling Division.)

COVINGTON, Ky. – For those dedicated to reducing the waste stream by either recycling or buying in bulk packaging, the scariest thing about Halloween isn’t the parade of ghosts and goblins but all those individually wrapped pieces of candy.

Candy bar wrappers … wrappers around hard candy discs … lollipop sticks … Smarties wrappers … the black and orange wrappers around Peanut Butter Kisses (the quintessential Halloween candy, btw) – none of that is recyclable.

But don’t go totally mad in your desperation.

Those little boxes that hold things like Milk Duds, M&Ms, Dots, Lemonheads, Swedish Fish, Bottle Caps and the like? You CAN throw those in your City of Covington recycling bins.

You can also bin those plastic tubs containing those gazillion pieces of Cotton Candy Puffs and Dubble Bubble Gum.

As for other plastic containers, you can take many of those to the Cincinnati Recycling and Reuse Hub, HERE.

And don’t throw those outgrown or gently used costumes away. Take them to a thrift store instead.
