COVINGTON, Ky. – All of you happily in love couples better hope our neighbors to the north win the big game on Sunday.
If not, the region’s collective depression, dejection and discouragement would make it a little difficult to celebrate with enthusiasm Monday, the day the candy-and-card industry has set aside for love and romance.
(We’re confident, of course. The way we see it, the biggest difficulty come the stroke of midnight Monday will be replacing all the orange-and-black decorations and Bengal faces with pink, white, and red hearts.)
But … we’re prepared for anything in The Cov, and that’s why we’ve scheduled so many Valentine’s Day (and Galentine’s Day, for that matter) events AHEAD of Super Bowl Sunday.
So if you want some one-on-one time with your sweetheart, we’ve got suggestions, including one that starts tonight, so don’t dawdle.
Some involve a roomful of kittens, while others involve “just” friends (thank you Leslie Barbara Knope) … brunch for two (with or without cats) … yoga (with cats) … or embracing the treasured serenity of an evening alone with that finest and most loyal of all partners – a good book.
All in all, a recipe for a just lovely weekend (… and if it’s not, Hierophany & Hedge sells books of fell magic to bring vengeance upon your ex-).
We hear it play out all the time on True Crime podcasts. A serial killer is arrested, their life-long partner shocked.
But it’s never too late for a thorough vetting of your mate. And while you might be fooled by a skilled liar, cats are not. How about an innocent game of “how-well-do-we-know-each-other?” at Purrfect Day Cat Café’s “The Love Connection: Couples’ Game?”
It happens tonight and you’ll need a reservation. Again, don’t dawdle.
We hope there are no revelations that you’ve partnered with a psychopath, but you might learn whether you can trust them to pick up your favorite Starbucks® beverage. Details HERE.
Ann Bradford met a carriage horse named Henry at Fountain Square back in 2005, and that meeting resulted in a series of paintings. You can see them Friday when the exhibit “Spirit Horse” opens at Behringer-Crawford Museum.
And there’s a lot more than horses in those paintings. Look for themes of strength and beauty because Bradford explored the physical and emotional aspects of her fight with breast cancer in those images.
And don’t miss Gregg Harper’s “Abracadabra” exhibit while you’re there. It’s an “exploration of thought.”
Good to see the museum welcoming guests after a short winter break. More HERE.
A shareable “decadent” dessert. … A “Strawpurry Sparking” cocktail. … “Smitten Kitten” hot chocolate.
Add a roomful of cats and you’ve got the premiere feline-focused Valentine’s experience.
That’s just what you’ll get with your reservation for two at Purrfect Day Cat Café on Friday. Their “Valentine’s ExPURRience” is sure to be the cat’s meow. There are two seatings, but you’ll need reservations. Details HERE.
“It’s like Lilith Fair, minus the angst.”
That’s right, we’re talking about Galentine’s Day, and Keystone Bar & Grill is celebrating this sacred, superior day on Friday.
Channel your Leslie Knope persona (there’s a Parks & Recreation Trivia contest, of course), and grab your … “beautiful rule-breaking moth” … your “beautiful tropical fish” … your “poetic and noble land-mermaid” – your BFFs, of course – and make a date (do not bring a man).
Sop on “Snake Juice, “The Ron Swanson,” and “Sweetum Fizz” and dine on breakfast-style fixin’s.
And there’s a Galentine’s Day gift basket raffle. Dare we suggest it’s packed with hand-crocheted flower pens, a mosaic portrait kit that includes crushed bottles of your favorite diet soda, and a journal to write a 5,000-word essay about why all your BFFs are so awesome? Details HERE.
Read it out loud:
“Galentine’s Day is only the best day of the year. Every February my lady friends and I leave our husbands and boyfriends at home, and we just come and kick it, breakfast-style.”
You know it, Leslie. Gather your BFFs (again) and head over to Braxton Brewing Company’s “Galentine’s Day: Beers & Brunch” in the Loft at Braxton on Saturday.
A waffle bar, chocolate-dipped vodka-infused strawberries (catered by Parlor on Seventh), and mimosas, bloody Mary’s, Braxton seltzers and beers. We’re not salivating, you’re salivating. Details HERE.
Vigilantly single? Or maybe the 10 people you’re seeing each think they’re “the one?” Maybe you’re in the mood to meet a stranger?
Your relationship status is of no consequence to the good folks at Pandemonium, they just want you to have a good time at their “Valentine’s Day Mingle” on Saturday.
Want to hand out Valentines to everyone at the bar? Play some jams on the TouchTunes? Sweeten up the place up with Def Leppard’s “Pour Some Sugar on Me”?
Do it. Details HERE.
Purrfect Day Cat Café (our sponsor for this #WeekendInLovetheCov piece) calls it the “PURRfect” marriage of exercise and “furry cuddles.”
You might be familiar with goat yoga, but this is better … goats get on your back sometimes when you’re down on all fours.
We trust that the felines at Purrfect Day Cat Café’s “Cats Heart Yoga Class with Damon” on Sunday will be too busy entertaining you with their own poses to bother hopping on your back (claws out or not). Details HERE.
Sure, you could endure the inconvenience of hosting your own Super Bowl watch-party, but why not let someone else cook the wings, make the dips, provide the beer ... and (especially) clean up?
You have options.
There’s the Bengals Big Bash Super Bowl Watch Party at Braxton Brewing Company, HERE. … Covington Yard, HERE. … and Keystone Bar & Grill, HERE.
There’s … Roebling Point Thursday Live at Keystone Bar & Grill, Smoke Justis, and Molly Malone’s tonight, HERE … Linus Tate at Smoke Justis on Friday, HERE … Twin Sons Duo at Smoke Justis on Saturday, HERE … Rhy! “Fear of Missing Out” Release Show with Rhy!, 4Quan, Nelson Perron, Moss., Szaba, $wish, Nico Santanna, T.V. Showez, and DJ Zelus at Madison Live on Saturday, HERE.
And then there’s ... Comedy Night at Pandemonium on Friday, HERE … RuPaul’s Drag Race with AJ in the Secret Bar at Creative House of Art & Design (CHAD) on Friday, HERE … “The Sound of Music” at The Carnegie on Friday and Saturday, HERE … Pandemonium Drag Revue at Pandemonium on Saturday, HERE … Covington Farmers Market on Saturday morning at 3rd & Greenup, HERE … and MainStrasse Food Tour on Saturday, HERE.
