COVINGTON, Ky. – How on earth is it already the last weekend of September? Is time accelerating at a maddening speed?
Oh well. Get out and make the most of your time this weekend. Lots of good stuff to do – and even opportunities to do good – throughout The Cov.
Looking for good beer, good folks, and a good cause? Head to Braxton Brewing Company for Breastober Fest – Willkommen! tonight.
Braxton Brewing Company joins with the I Have Wings Breast Cancer Foundation to raise money to give financial relief to families impacted by a breast cancer diagnosis.
I Have Wings helps supply prostheses, lymphedema compression sleeves, wigs, food, gas, and more. Seriously important, helpful stuff.
It’s a family friendly event with plenty of pizza to consume, $1 costume jewelry, a split-the-pot contest, and, of course, lots of beer. Every dollar spent on Breastober Fest Beer will be a donation to I Have Wings.
An Evening with Lucinda Williams & Her Band is perhaps all you need to know about what’s happening in The Cov this weekend.
She’ll be at the Madison Theater on Friday, and when she starts singing, you’re going to feel like she’s gone and plucked the lyrics right out of the thoughts in your head and put ‘em out there for all to hear.
‘How does she know?’ you’ll wonder, a stillness coming over you because even the slightest lift of your brow could reveal to all that she’s sharing your story on stage.
In a voice that was once described as having a “melancholic rural twang,” she’ll deliver your deepest thoughts and heartaches in lyrics like this:
“Howlin’ at midnight, winter creepin’ in/Feel like I’ve gone and lost my best friend.” (Cue the deep cavernous ache in the space where your heart used to beat.)
Nothing heralds the descent of autumn’s once bold, refulgent leaves and the too-soon-lonely gray of winter like a woman singing songs stirred with sorrow and grit, especially singing them live on a stage right in front of you.
So, get your tickets. Get a cocktail (or two). And get yourself real close to the stage, because when she sings, it’s just between you and her.
When Circus Mojo shows up for something, you can expect to be entertained in a big way.
On Friday, there will be juggling, plate-spinning, feather-balancing, fire-breathing and more when Circus Mojo’s astonishingly nimble and exceedingly coordinated dare-devils perform for the Keystone Carnival: 15th Anniversary Celebration at Keystone Bar & Grill. (Time sure does fly when you’re serving up really good mac & cheese).
In addition to Keystone’s usual bowls of cheesy goodness, there will be plenty of brews from Bircus Brewing Co., Queen City Cotton Candy, and Second Sight Spirits.
Imagine being such a wonderful, beloved human that folks wanted to name a beer after you and come together annually to lift their glass in your honor.
Mike “Big Cis” Cisneros was that human.
If you listen to Cincy Brewcast, the definitive “voice of Cincy craft” beer, then you know all about Mike, or “Big Cis” to those who knew him, and that he was a genuinely good guy.
After “Big Cis” passed away in 2016, his close friends and a group of local breweries started brewing a beer in his honor. You can join them in raising a toast to “Big Cis” and all the good things about the craft beer community on Saturday at Braxton Brewing Company’s Big Cis Czech Pilsner Tapping.
There’s also going to be a Gnarly Gnome podcast live from the taproom, games, raffle tables, a photo booth, and special stuff from Brewhaus Dog Bones, like dog treats and cakes to give away, and a doggy prize wheel & duck pond.
Begin your Sunday with a piping hot cup of coffee at The Roost Latonia, then set out on a one-day, self-guided tour through Latonia, where you’ll get a glimpse of what makes it such a cool neighborhood.
At Beyond the Curb | Covington 2022, you’ll get exclusive looks into the “befores, durings, and afters” of a dozen interesting properties that include quirky commercial spaces, artsy renovations, charming houses, and more.
As if good coffee and interesting buildings aren’t enough to make the experience enjoyable, there’s a tour booklet and swag bag too.
