MLK Jr. Day: City Hall closed Monday, breakfast discussion Saturday

COVINGTON, Ky. – Offices at Covington City Hall will be closed Monday to honor the federal holiday marking the birth anniversary of civil rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Offices will reopen at 8 a.m. Tuesday.

Meanwhile, an event to honor King’s legacy will be held Saturday (tomorrow) morning in the city. The annual Martin Luther King Jr. Discussion Breakfast begins at 9:30 a.m. and will run until about 11: 45 a.m. at Church of Our Savior Parish Hall, 246 E. 10th St.

Topics of discussion will center on racial equity and the roots and causes of white supremacy.

Panelists will be Sr. Alice Gerdeman, CDP, coordinator at the Intercommunity Justice and Peace Center; Northern Kentucky University professor Joan Ferrante, founder of the Mourning the Creation of Racial Categories Project; and John C.K. Fisher, a field supervisor with the Kentucky Commission on Human Rights.

The program is free and open to everyone.
