COVINGTON, Ky. – Is it just us, or did this week seem to drag on at the creeping pace of a slug? Oh well … we survived it, and now we’ve arrived at the weekend.
Assuming you survived too, we have some fun things to do this weekend in The Cov. Take a look and see what appeals to you.
Tonight is iCuentame un Cuento! (Spanish Storytime) at the Kenton County Library, so maybe you’d like to make tonight about the kiddos.
There will be plenty of stories and lots of fun activities.
The Opening Reception of Kentucky Craft Luminaries: Sharing the Stories at Behringer-Crawford Museum is on Saturday, and it’s a collaboration between the museum and the Kentucky Craft History & Education Association (KCHEA).
KCHEA does the important work of gathering, conserving, and presenting the history and ongoing impact of crafts in the Bluegrass State.
The “Sharing the Stories” exhibit features a sampling of nearly 100 artists who have been interviewed over the last 15 years as part of KCHEA’s ongoing oral history project. Expect to see artworks and hear stories of some of the state’s most recognized craft artists who are masterful at crafting basketry, furniture, weaving, pottery, glass, quilting, wooden folk art, and stringed instruments. Plus, they each have a good story to tell.
Sure, candles on the cake are a fun and traditional way to celebrate a birthday. But we have a better idea. How about celebrating with a wickedly good cabaret?
One Year Birthday Show at Pandemonium on Saturday celebrates Wicked City Cabaret’s 1-year birthday, so come meet its newest members while Tre Howl emcees along with Firecracker, Velvet Dior, and Blaze Belle.
Tickets must be purchased online.
Alas, the pain of a nagging shin splint.
Ever wonder what you can do to prevent shin splints? Dreamed of improving the cadence of your run and look like something more akin to a gazelle than a struggling baby giraffe?
The Runner’s Clinic at Muscular Pain Therapy on Saturday will teach you how to become a more proficient runner by learning about the musculature involved with the dynamics of running.
Armed with this information, you’ll be more inclined to avoid injury, understand how the hip and flexors are associated with turnover for a smoother cadence and speed, and how lower leg muscles focus on stabilization, heel strike, and shin splint care. There’s a fee for the class, but you’ll be well-prepared to sign up for all those 5K’s you’ve had your eye in the spring.
If you’ve seen “Whip It,” then you know: Women who skate roller derby don’t mess around. They BRING it.
Whether you like to cheer the finesse of the jammers or the crunching hits and strategy of the blockers, then here is welcome news: Tickets and season passes to all home bouts of the local Black-n-Bluegrass Rollergirls have just now gone on sale.
The first bout isn’t until April 22 vs. the Chemical Valley Rollergirls, but we didn’t want you to miss out on that event or the bouts against the likes of the Appalachian Hellbetties, the Rockford Rage, and Terrorz.
The team skates at Hits Indoor Baseball and Sportsplex Covington. For tickets, see 2023 – ROLL for the ROSES!
