COVINGTON, Ky. – Obviously this is Easter weekend, which for many people means coloring eggs, buying candy, and going to service.
But that’s not the only thing happening in The Cov: What do you say you mellow out with some Moon Water or mandalas this weekend, tidy up those unkempt locks, and treat yourself to a stack of waffles?
Spring is here and you’re due some pampering.
The Full Moon Fest at Creative House of Art & Design (CHAD) tonight features all the necessities to celebrate the first full moon of the spring season, and by that we mean palm and tarot reading.
But first, an interesting tidbit about this moon – which is known as the Paschal or Pink Moon: While not actually pink, it derives its name from the early springtime blooms of the wildflower commonly known as creeping phlox. Entirely by coincidence, this happens to be the very blazing pink flower show in full glory as the City’s Facebook cover photo this week. (Coincidence? We think NOT!)
CHAD says it’ll have “Moon Water” too. That COULD mean they’ve harnessed the calm and soothing qualities of the moon by placing fresh rainwater in a container, then storing it beneath the moonlight so as to absorb that good moon energy, and tonight you’ll use it to manifest all range of good things in your life. Or it could mean that Moon Water is the name of a really cool libation that CHAD conjured up for the event. Whichever, you’ll enjoy.
Need a fade or a flattop? Maybe your Elfrid Payton hairstyle needs to be reined it a bit? Or maybe you fear your unkempt Kentucky Waterfall mullet is going to embarrass the family during Sunday’s Easter portrait?
Regardless, Hortons Barber Shop is here just in time with its 2023 Easter Weekend 2 Day Cut-a- thon starting Friday and running through Saturday.
Stop by and leave with a respectful cut that will make even Grandma and your minister proud.
Are you aware of the afront to that fluffy, sugar-coated Easter tradition, Peeps? For whatever reason, the product now comes flavored as Hot Tamales, Dr. Pepper, Kettle Corn, Mike and Ike candies, Sour Watermelon, Fruit Punch, Sparkly Berry, and Cotton Candy, all wrapped up in the same sugary glaze. (Can a bacon version be far behind?)
It’s a veritable bastardization of those squishy little confections that were, let’s face it, generally little more than Easter basket filler and largely overlooked until one day in, say, early May, when curiosity, desperation, and a nagging guilt about wasting something/anything prompted you to take a bite and exclaiming, “Wow, they’re actually really good when they’re stale.”
Anyway, we’re talking about a different kind of “peeps” … the best kind of peeps to bring to Saturday’s Bunny Brunch at The Roost Latonia are your tried and true peeps – your pals or your family – and plan to enjoy a waffle station, breakfast meats (other than rabbit -- heck, we’re way far out from rabbit season), quiche, fruit, and craft drinks.
Why focus on every negative little thing when zeroing in on a dot can elevate your mind?
We’re talking about dot mandalas. Way back in 4th century India, Buddhist monks created mandalas because the meditative process helped train their minds to become more enlightened. The center of a mandala is a dot, a symbol considered free of dimensions and interpreted as a starting point, or a beginning of contemplation and the end result is very cool art. (It would be counterintuitive to envision your arch-nemesis in the center of that dot).
The Mandala Dot Painting workshop at Purple Paisley, Local Artisan Shop on Saturday will teach you this ancient art of dot painting. There’s a fee but all tools are provided. Come for the art instruction but leave enlightened.
