COVINGTON, Ky. – If you’re already tired of raking leaves, and if you’re not one of the camo-wearing hordes out in the woods this weekend in search of Odocoileus virginianus, then we have some suggestions this weekend.
Looking for a little ‘80s nostalgia? How about revisiting one of the greatest revenge flicks of 1980? You know, the one where three office workers got even with their sexist, self-aggrandizing, peacocking, lying boss in a big way?
Then do not miss NKU: 9 to 5 The Musical at The Carnegie tonight (and through Saturday), showcasing Dolly Parton’s brilliant music and lyrics and featuring the talents of Northern Kentucky University’s School of the Arts students on stage (even better than a big screen).
Purrfect Day Cat Café Covington has more than 3,000 reasons to celebrate their 3rd year in The Cov. That’s the number of kitties they’ve found homes for since they opened their doors in 2020 (during a pandemic, no less).
The fun starts Friday at 3rd Anni-PURR-Sary Weekend at the PDC Cov and runs all weekend long. Here’s a sampling of what’s happening: Happy MEOW-R all weekend long (that’s happy hour in human language) … a special Anni-Purr-Sary drink … brunch specials … beer and meow-mosa flights … yoga on Sunday (do be sure to reserve a spot) … and kitties, kitties, kitties.
Feeling like an immersive gin experience tonight? 5 Stories Gin Tasting at Juniper’s will guide you through the distilleries’ distilling process, beginning with the foraging of the botanicals used in the gin and onward to when the libation greets your lips like an old friend.
You get to taste four gins – alone and paired with tapas and a flight of four mini cocktails. Tickets include the gin presentation, gin samplings, and the cocktail flight, and tapas paring.
Having entered the fall season, the Covington Farmers Market is now found in a reliably warm setting. That means the Saturday Covington Farmers Market at Braxton Brewing Company elevates your weekly marketing excursion to one that presents the opportunity to sip a fine brew while you shop a full house of local vendors.
What hasn’t changed is the robust selection of goods from vendors that include Ky Girl Hemp, Honeybee Creations, Kentucky Millstone Café, Mankai Teas, Spring Creek Farm, Boone Creek Creamery, Breadsmith, Green GRRRL Wisdom, Hampton Ridge Farm, Pine Hill Farm, ETC P&P, North Valley Croft, and Stock Up 4 Health.
If you can’t find what you need here, then odds are, friend, you don’t really need it.
If you look around, there’s a good chance you’ll see a Christmas garland dangling on more than a few front doors, high above a too-soon-to-wilt jack-o-lantern on the front steps around the region. Turns out it is none too early to celebrate the warmth and spirit of an old-fashioned Christmas.
The Behringer-Crawford Museum is on board (perhaps leading the charge toward the holiday) as it kicks off its annual Holly Jolly Days on Saturday (which will run through Jan. 7, 2024).
The museum’s A Window Through Time starts Saturday with vintage feather Christmas trees, antique German ornaments, toys, and more. There are Carman Miranda tutti-frutti trees bursting with color and bling like the Brazilian samba singer, and teddy bears suited up in their finery for an enchanted plum pudding party.
Step into the world of 19th century author Charles Dickens as you enter his study, where he tells the tale of Ebeneezer Scrooge. And marvel at the huffing and puffing of the museum’s Holiday Toy Trains. We’re talking big family holiday fun here.
Likewise, it’s never too early to make traction on that holiday shopping list, and Saturday’s Pre-Holiday Bazaar at Purple Paisley, Local Artisan Shop is a grand place to start.
More than 60 local artists are installed at Purple Paisley and on Saturday several of those artists will be set up on site with additional artworks available for purchase – and many artists will offer special discounts for the Pre-Holiday Bazaar. As if buying local artwork, saving money, and possibly finishing your holiday shopping in one day isn’t appealing enough, you’ll be able to enjoy light refreshments while you shop.
