COVINGTON, Ky. – Once again, we’re landing in your inbox on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving so that you can get started on the weekend festivities (which begin tonight and generally involves local watering holes).
Make no mistake, there’s stuff going on this week after the big meal. For one, there’s holiday shopping to be done. Plan to do yours locally at the many cool Covington small businesses.
Enjoy your holiday meal, (outfit yourself with an expandable waistband), and let’s hope there’s no contentious conversation around the table tomorrow.
As Small Business Saturday Shopping goes, The Cov is a grand destination.
We tout ourselves as “all character, no chains” for a reason. Our streets really are lined with cool and wonderful local-owned businesses instead of big box chains.
So, on Saturday, plan to begin the day with a pastry and cup of coffee from a local coffee shop, then set out to start checking off the items on that long gift list you started composing a month ago. We promise you’ll find a plethora of choices for even the most difficult person on your list.
Look for local events like: The Roost Latonia’s Shop Small, Eat & Drink Big. The Roost will team up with neighboring businesses for unique finds, treats, and more. … Meanwhile, JP’s Small Business Saturday Pottery Event at Purple Paisley, Local Artisan Shop will feature artist Jeff Prather’s creative ceramics. … And the Latonia Small Business Saturday & Tree Lighting will feature a special guest who will graciously pose for photos with the kiddos.
Be sure to spread the good word about your shopping ventures (and all the great businesses in The Cov) by taking selfies and posting them with the hashtag #shopsmallcovington.

Who couldn’t benefit from putting a mat on the floor and having a quiet, focused stretch after gathering with friends and family for a massive meal?
You’ll find the opportunity to cultivate and sustain your physical, mental, and emotional well-being through yoga and meditation on Friday at the Weekend Reset Yoga at Thrive Empowerment Center.
Space is limited, so be sure to make a reservation.
For some, the scent of pine and balsam herald the holiday season. For others it’s the sight of glistening lights and billowing ribbons on door fronts. For still others, it’s the sweet sound of a holiday carol plucked upon the strings of a mountain dulcimer.
If you’re in the latter group, then you will find your people – and your music – at the Hills of Kentucky Dulcimers Performance at Behringer-Crawford Museum on Saturday.
HOKD (for those against syllables) is a 100-plus member group of talented musicians who share a love of dulcimers. If you’re not in the know about the dulcimer, then this is event is where your tutorial should begin.
