COVINGTON, Ky. – Covington Police Officer William Gonzales has returned to familiar terrain, patrolling once again the streets of the city he calls “home.”

Gonzales, who grew up in Covington, came to the Covington Police Department after working as a police officer in Lexington, Ky. He made a brief return to the Lexington Police Department before rejoining Covington.

In a re-swearing in ceremony today at City Hall, Mayor Joe Meyer, who  issued the oath, praised the leadership at Covington PD and welcomed Gonzales back.

“You understand how important police-community relations are in Covington,” Meyer said. “You have great leadership here. Welcome back.”

Gonzales is a veteran of the U.S. Army and a graduate of North Carolina Wesleyan College.

“It’s good anytime we can get an officer with his experience back on the street,” said Covington Police Chief Brian Valenti. “He’s only been gone several months, so realistically he’ll be back on the street without much training.”
