COVINGTON, Ky. – If you’re looking for something special to do with or for your mom for Mother’s Day on Sunday, you’ll be relieved to know that weekend events in The Cov present pretty fine options.
For example, you could take her on a garden shopping spree. Or you could treat her to good BBQ. Or peruse good art while strolling through a park along the Covington banks of La Belle Riviere. And if your mom is into rock n’ roll, jazz, cold beer, or kitties, we’ve got you covered there too.
If you haven’t purchased a Mother’s Day gift yet, you can put together an entire garden for her if you visit the Trinity Garden Mart, which happens Friday and Saturday at Trinity Episcopal Church.
The Trinity Garden Mart has been around for more than 25 years and never disappoints. You’ll find an impressive gathering of local vendors offering spring flowers, garden items (including Atwood Family Farms with more than 80 different kinds of tomato plants), herbs, hanging baskets from Diefenbacher Greenhouse in Cincinnati, jewelry, pottery, and more. Plus, you can get a good bite to eat Friday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
All proceeds from this year’s event will benefit the Youth of Trinity Church and their planned mission trips, covering the cost for all who wish to attend.
Ready to indulge in finger-licking goodness? You’ll find some of the best BBQ in the region at this weekend’s Smoke on the River BBQ Fest, which starts Friday and runs through Sunday.
Admission is free to the festival, which promises something for every BBQ aficionado: pulled pork, jumbo turkey legs, spare ribs, pulled chicken, St. Louis-style ribs, pork belly burnt ends, spicy hog wings (we did have the Flying Pig race happen last week), smoked brisket, and more things than we could ever imagine that involve meat and BBQ. There’s also a Sunday Mother’s Day Special called “The Flower Pot.”
Plenty here for music lovers too, like the School of Rock, Doghouse, Vinyl Countdown, Abe’s Lincoln, Britney’s Lipstick, Road Trip, and the Michelle Robinson Band.
This sounds like a made-to-order Mother’s Day gift: A Saturday afternoon in the park with plenty of local art.
The 53rd Annual Duveneck Art Show is a Covington tradition, and it happens on Saturday at George Rogers Clark Park. You can purchase the work of talented regional artists, enjoy cool music, and dine on tasty food from food trucks, all while enjoying a great riverfront view.
Whimsical Alcohol Ink Tangles might sound like something you got yourself into when, after one too many libations with your friends, you thought it was a good idea to pen a message to an ex-.
Fortunately, that’s not the case here.
Whimsical Alcohol Ink Tangles at Purple Paisley, Local Artisan Shop is a workshop that takes you on the exciting journey into the world of alcohol ink painting. Artist Tara Pugh will teach the class and encourage you to unlock your creativity and immerse yourself in this cool form of painting.
The class is for beginners and experienced artists alike. A small fee covers all the tools you’ll need to make great art, which of course you’ll take home.
