COVINGTON, Ky. – Good Gawd almighty. This heat. We dang near included “Oppressive heat” in the headline.
Whatever you do in The Cov this weekend – and believe us, there is a lot of really great stuff happening that you won’t want to miss – just be mindful that you need to drink copious amounts of water so you don’t get dehydrated. (That’s the extent of our trying to parent you. Now go have fun.)
Consider this the pool whistle blowing to signal an “adult swim,” except instead of easing down into the water, you’re being alerted to dip your toe into a pool of creativity.
Adult Creative Swim: Wet Felting at The Hellmann Creative Center tonight is part of Art Equals’ Adult Creative Swim program, which features a different creative technique for you to explore throughout the summer.
Tonight you’ll be doing wet felting, which is the process by which animal fibers – like wool – are made into a sheet of non-woven fabric through a combination of wetting and agitation. Once you’ve got your welted material, you can make all range of items (though creating welted fabric sounds like an achievement in itself).
This is the weekend to bring your taco comrades and margarita aficionados together and descend upon MainStrasse Village with a hunger and a thirst.
The Taco & Margarita Festival starts Friday in the village and runs through Sunday, featuring food, libations, vendors, and live music.
Expect to nosh on an array of traditional tacos and creative fusions, all created by local vendors. You can wash them down with an equally robust selection of margarita flavors and styles.
Saturday’s annual E-Waste and Paper Shredding Event at Holmes High School is in its ninth year and is proof that more and more folks in The Cov take recycling seriously.
The City partners with the Center for Great Neighborhoods and its Keep Covington Beautiful program for the event, and there are several categories of recyclable items that can be dropped off, like electronic waste, confidential documents to be shredded, certain types of Styrofoam™-like materials, and miscellaneous items like batteries and light bulbs.
Before you load up your car and head over to the school, be sure to check the detailed list at the link for the specifics on what you can and can’t bring.
Looking for a day filled with diverse cultural experiences? If so, then immerse yourself in the rich traditions, music, dance, and delicious food from various cultures that you’ll find at the Northern Kentucky Culture Day at the Hellmann Creative Center on Saturday.
The event is sponsored by the Kentucky African Women Association, and is going to be a celebration of the veritable tapestry of the Northern Kentucky’s diverse community.
Looking for a time portal to take you back to the days of your youth? Look no further than some of your favorite restaurants and watering holes in The Cov because Braxton Brewing Co.’s Through the Decades Pub Crawl starts Saturday.
Your first stop is the 2000s at Rich’s Proper Food and Drink. Then you’ll skateboard into the ’90s at The Well Covington. Next you’ll stroll over to Olde Town Tavern for an ’80s reunion. And you’ll end your journey groovin’ to the ’70s at Braxton.
You’ll have to solve puzzles along your travels, and don’t forget to dress up in the fashion statement of your favorite decade. If you’re lucky, you could win 4 VIP tickets to the Paradise Music & Beer Festival this year at Sawyer Point.
The Rocky Horror Picture Show opens Saturday at The Carnegie with none other than RuPaul Drag Race star and Kentucky native Dusty Ray Bottoms in the lead role of Dr. Frank-n-Furter and Cincinnati artist Pam Kravetz as The Narrator.
The show is the longest-running theatrical release in history (it premiered in 1975 at the UA Westwood Theater in Los Angeles). And almost 50 years later it continues to entertain generations with its tale of two squeaky-clean college kids, Brad and his fiancée Janet, and what happens when their car stalls outside a creepy mansion.
The performance runs through July 7, which means you can see it multiple times.
