City Hall closed Thursday for Independence Day; be courteous to your neighbors
COVINGTON, Ky. – Some 248 years ago, 56 courageous men signed a document making it adamantly clear that they, their families, and their neighbors had no intention of living under the overbearing rule of the British Empire an ocean way.
It was, colloquially speaking, a big “Buzz off!” missive to King George III.
We all know what happened next.
This Independence Day, before you grill burgers (whether venison or beef), swim, march, and wave a flag or sparklers in the air, it’s worth reading that document: Declaration of Independence.
Meanwhile:
- CITY HALL: City Hall will be closed Thursday and reopen at 8 a.m. Friday.
- COURTESY: With freedom comes responsibility. Please be courteous to your neighbors when it comes to noise and everything else, whether that’s music, patriotic singing, or whatever. Also, if you drink alcohol, don’t drive.
- TRASH SKED: Trash and recycling collection in Covington will follow a normal schedule this week, although the Covington Transfer Station on Boron Drive will close (early) at noon Thursday.
- PARADE: The Friends of Peaselburg Neighborhood Association’s Independence Day Parade will begin at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Augustine Church on West 19th Street, then wind throughout the neighborhood and end with a social gathering at the church.
- BOC: There is no Board of Commissioners meeting tonight. The Commission will next meet at 6 p.m. July 9 for a caucus meeting.
