Lederhosen, carnival & fall fest

COVINGTON, Ky. –  It’s festival time in The Cov this weekend with the return of several annual events: Oktoberfest, the annual “twilight” event at Baker Hunt Art & Cultural Center, and a festival for families and young children.

There’s also plenty of live music, football-watching events, the weekly farmers market, food tour, and more.

Sippin’ & smokin’

Crafts & Vines delivers a unique cigar experience on its patio tonight with Wine & Cigars.

Straus Tobacconist will be on hand to offer two cigar parings that you can enjoy with a nice port and madeira, provided by Cutting Edge Selections. The pairing is optional and will need to be purchased separately from Straus Tobacconist. Additional cigars will be available for purchase.

There’s limited patio seating for the cigar experience, so be quick about securing a spot.

Free fest for kiddos

Families with kids 6 years old and under won’t want to miss Saturday’s third-annual Early Childhood Fall Fest that happens outside the Lincoln Grant Scholar House at 824 Greenup St. and in Randolph Park.

The Read Ready Covington Coalition, the City’s early learning initiative and festival sponsor, knows how to throw a fun event where kids actually learn a lot of cool stuff. They’ll have the Covington Fire Department on hand with big shiny trucks for their Touch-a-Truck experience, the Newport Aquarium and WAVE Foundation’s WAVE on Wheels Tide Pool presentation, with stuff like sea stars, urchins, horseshoe crabs, hermit crabs, and conches), bunnies to hold, live music, hot dogs, snacks, drinks, goodie bags, games, and prizes.

The event checks all the boxes for FREE family fun.

Oktoberfest

Are you brewing with excitement? Twirling in your dirndl? Adjusting the suspenders on your lederhosen?

Get ready for a gute Zeit this weekend because Covington Oktoberfest 2024 returns to Goebel Park in MainStrasse Village on Friday and runs through Sunday, promising a weekend filled with local food and craft vendors, live music, interactive activities, competitions, and plenty of Braxton beers.

Seriously, come hungry (and thirsty) because you’ll find a ton of food booths like Hangry Omar’s, Bavarian Nuts, Zoomer, Mick Noll’s, Mr. Beefy, RKP Fest Haus, The Strudel Factory, Graeter’s Ice Cream, Celia Jo’s BBQ, Kona Ice, and more. Looking for a sit-down-style meal? You can satisfy your craving for a hearty German dinner with Festzelt, a traditional seated-and-served German Oktoberfest dinner that will feature four traditional Bavarian courses and two liters of beer, wine, cocktails, or seltzers, and that kicks off with a charcuterie board.

Carnival comes to town

Remember when you were a kid and the carnival came to town? You’d ruin your appetite by grazing at every food booth (cotton candy, funnel cakes, deep-fried versions of everything from cookies to butter), only to purge it all after fastening yourself into an amusement ride that had been assembled in less than a day. Ah, to be young and do it all again.

On Saturday you can journey back to the days of your childhood at Baker Hunt Art & Cultural Center’s Twilight at the Carnival. This time, however, the food is delicious, the games are clever, the music is classic, and the real prize is all the amazing art that will be on display.

The evening will be filled with live music, art demonstrations, games, a chance raffle, an art show by Baker Hunt artists, and carnival dishes by Baker Hunt chefs who will take a traditional carnival dish and add their own twist.

Proceeds from the event will help Baker Hunt’s programming and in particular its outreach programs, making art available to all.
