Pet portraits, wine & calm amid holiday stress

COVINGTON, Ky. – You’ll find a wide range of ways to unwind and have fun in The Cov this weekend.

That’s a good thing, considering you’ll likely spend wearisome hours in the kitchen next week preparing the perfect meal to serve your extended family, when they travel from afar to sit down at your table for the annual eating of turkey and pumpkin pie and the spewing of divisive political views. (Hopefully more of the former and less of the latter.)

Holiday grapes

If you’re wondering which wine to pair with your Thanksgiving bird (or tofu or venison chops or whatever takes center stage on your table next week), then tonight’s Thanksgiving Wine Tasting at Crafts & Vine will give you the guidance you seek.

Featured wines include Le Rocher des Violettes Petillant Naturel, Florent Cosme Vouvray Sec, Domaine Bel-Air Beaujolais Villages, and Boyer de Bar Pinot Noir. Two seatings available.

Bejeweled dazzlers

Odds are that each year your tree-trimming efforts are peppered with memories spurred by handmade ornaments, the ones made by tiny hands or your own.

Make new memories to hang on your tree at Saturday’s Holiday Ornament Decoration event at Purple Paisley, Local Artisan Shop. Artist Sandy Zureick will lead a fun and creative workshop where you’ll jewel up two holiday ornaments using flat back rhinestones and diamond art techniques.

You don’t have to be an experienced crafter to create decorative creations to add to your tree.

Your pet deserves wall status

Just in time for the holiday season, Crafts & Vines’ Pet Portrait Sessions on Saturday invites you and your furry family member to stop in for a glass of beer or wine and sit for a family portrait that you’ll likely want in a gilded frame in your foyer.

The event, which has a small ticket cost and requires a commitment to a 15-minute time slot during registration, includes a draft beer or glass of wine, a 10-minute professional photo session with your pet (or just you, or just your pet), and one edited image. Of course you’ll have the option to purchase additional images from the session. Images will be delivered via an online gallery.

Feel free to bring your pet’s favorite toy or dress them up in their favorite attire.

The divine feminine

The Shop & Feed Your Soul – Awakening Your Divine Feminine with Mary Barr Rhodes & Aurora Sky event at SoHza Sister Boutique on Sunday is a day of empowerment, self-discovery, and sisterhood as you awaken and embrace the divine feminine within.

This event features two things you’re likely craving: food and silence.

You’ll spend the first half hour of the event in silence while enjoying an abundant array of foods to arouse your senses, then dive into a guided meditation that leads into a full sound bath which “bathes” you in sound waves. (We feel relaxed just writing about this event.)

Relax deeply

Sunday’s Restorative Yoga with Afton at Thrive Empowerment Center is a gentle, supportive practice that’s focused on deep relaxation and healing.

By holding restful poses with the aid of props, you’ll release tension, reduce stress, and restore balance to both body and mind.
