COVINGTON, Ky. – Covington residents looking for a holiday outing this weekend will find a FREE event available to them at the Behringer-Crawford Museum on Saturday for exhibits the whole family will enjoy.
BCM’s “Holly Jolly City Days” will be free to Covington residents for “Covington City Day,” on Saturday, Dec. 21, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. To get in free, just show proof of Covington residency (such as a driver’s license or a piece of mail). Guest tickets can be purchased at a discounted price of $5 for friends or family who live outside of the city.
Visitors can look forward to new attractions, including 13 animated displays in the Holiday Toy Trains exhibit, a nostalgic “A Window Through Time” display with vintage Christmas décor, and a LEGO Makerspace for creative play.
The free admission applies to all of the exhibits at the museum, located at 1600 Montague Road in Covington’s Devou Park.
- BCM’s 33rd Annual Holiday Toy Trains exhibit is a holiday tradition, with 250 feet of eight O-gauge Lionel model trains chugging along 250 feet of track, featuring dozens of buttons to push to activate carnival rides, ice skaters, a cow-abducting UFO, and more. New additions to the exhibit this year include a miniature roller coaster and a festive cake factory.
- An interactive LEGO play space and exhibit by OKILUG (Ohio-Kentucky-Indiana LEGO Users Group).
- “A Window Through Time” exhibit features vintage feather Christmas trees decorated with delicate German ornaments and antique décor from the 19th and early 20th centuries.
- A preview to the “White Christmas” exhibit returning in 2025 features original costumes from the classic 1954 holiday musical worn by its famous cast: Kentucky’s own “Girl Singer” Rosemary Clooney as Betty Haynes; Vera-Ellen, who grew up across the Ohio River in the Cincinnati suburb of Norwood, as Judy Haynes; George Chakiris, also from Norwood and a dancer in the film; Bing Crosby as Bob Wallace; and Danny Kaye as Phil Davis.
Other museum exhibits include “The Road to the Bengals,” which takes visitors on a journey through time, offering an in-depth look at the evolution of the Bengals franchise and the football icons who paved the way, including the legacy of earlier professional football teams in Cincinnati before the modern Bengals were established in 1968.
In addition to the numerous exhibits, there will be a Polar Express Reading & Craft at 11 a.m., and the Hills of Kentucky Dulcimers Performance of seasonal music on the Appalachian – or mountain – dulcimer (Kentucky’s state instrument since 2002) and other traditional mountain instruments from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m.. Both are included with “Covington City Day” admission.
Behringer-Crawford Museum’s Holly Jolly Days run through Jan. 12, 2025.
