COVINGTON, Ky. – It will come as no surprise to you that the weekend promises ample holiday happenings in The Cov.
Get out there and be festive.
While the winter solstice marks the beginning of winter up here in the Northern Hemisphere, we can take comfort in knowing that, once it occurs, each day will have a bit more sunlight than the day before it, and that’s to be celebrated.
The Winter Solstice Celebration at the Hellmann Creative Center on Friday invites you to push through the darkness of winter by creating your own unique light using traditional paper lantern techniques.
There will be community merry-making, refreshments, some drumming, and a special light celebration with community poetry, all making winter completely tolerable, if not outright enjoyable.
Mrs. Claus is stepping out for breakfast on Saturday and she wants you to join her.
Pancakes with Mrs. Claus at Creative House of Art & Design will delight the kiddos with the warm magical presence of the ever so gracious Mrs. Claus, plus stacks of pancakes, festive Christmas crafts, and holiday movies.
Covington City Day at Behringer-Crawford Museum on Saturday means Covington residents can explore all the cool exhibits that are part of the museum’s “Holly Jolly City Days” for FREE. (It’s a seriously fun and festive day for all.)
The day features BCM’s 33rd Annual Holiday Toy Trains exhibit which has 250 feet of eight O-gauge Lionel model trains chugging along the track, with lots of buttons to push that will activate carnival rides, ice skaters, a cow-abducting UFO, and more.
You can also enjoy an interactive LEGO exhibit as well as see a preview to the museum’s “White Christmas” exhibit, which returns in 2025 and features original costumes from the classic 1954 holiday musical worn by its famous cast, like Kentucky’s own “Girl Singer” Rosemary Clooney.
As if that weren’t enough holiday fun, the day also includes free admission to BCM’s “The Road to the Bengals” exhibit, which takes an in-depth look at the evolution of the Bengals franchise and its icons. And don’t miss the Polar Express Reading and Craft. (And absolutely do not miss the Hills of Kentucky Dulcimers performance of seasonal music in the afternoon.)
Braxton Brewing Company invites all to join in their 6th Annual Reindeer Games Pub Crawl on Saturday for a night of libations, games, merriment, and holiday cheer.
You’ll start the night by grabbing a scorecard at Braxton, then make your way to The Well and Olde Town Tavern to play interactive holiday games at each stop, earn points, and compete for prizes (think brewery swag).
Don’t forget to wear your favorite ugly sweater or festive outfit, because you’ll want to look your best for that pic you’ll take with Santa.
Warm your holiday spirits on Saturday when the No Promises vocal band performs their Christmas with No Promises concert at The Carnegie.
These “Best of Cincinnati” winners will bring seasonal favorites to the stage with selections from Joni Mitchell, A Charlie Brown Christmas, Andy Williams, The Temptations, NYSNC, and more.
The evening-length performance includes two sets of music by No Promises.
