Snow, ice, cold continue to cause problems
COVINGTON, Ky. – “Patience” continues to be the operative word as winter storms and lingering snow and ice affect the collection of trash and recycling from the curbs of Covington homes.
According to Rumpke Waste & Recycling, the one-day-delay plan continues to be in effect both today and Saturday. In other words, today trucks are servicing areas whose trash is usually collected on Thursday, and tomorrow (Saturday), trucks will be servicing routes usually collected on Friday.
However, several factors could interfere with that plan:
- One, the region is forecast to receive a new batch of snow this afternoon. How much, when, and where isn’t yet apparent.
- Two, snow and ice from the Sunday-Monday storm, plus parked vehicles covered with snow, continue to block access to trash and recycling carts in some areas. IF your cart wasn’t collected (and the rest of your street was), chances are Rumpke will not get to it this week. In that event, Rumpke officials say drivers will collect additional material on your next scheduled collection day.

“We appreciate people’s patience,” said Sheila Fields, Covington’s Solid Waste and Recycling Manager. “We’re in constant contact with Rumpke and their drivers are doing what they can, but the snow, cold temperatures, and somewhat unpredictable forecast are interfering.”
