COVINGTON, Ky. – Today is Galentine’s Day and Friday is Valentine’s Day, so shower those you love with flowers, jewels, wine, or bourbon, and, for crying out loud, show yourself some love while you’re at it. And do all these things in The Cov. There are a lot of opportunities to choose from.
Joan Crawford lit up the screen as Lucy Harbin in 1964’s “Strait-Jacket,” but her character’s charm bracelet should have been singled out for “best performance by a piece of jewelry.”
The sound of the otherwise whimsical, jingling charm bracelet turned ominous as Lucy, gripping an axe, crept toward her unsuspecting cheating husband and his paramour, poised to whack off their heads.
For the most part, charm bracelets are jangling, carefully selected gems of self-expression that have stood the test of time. Maybe you have one that belonged to your mother or grandmother, or maybe you created one of your own in the heyday of Pandora customizable charm jewelry (circa early 2000s).
Tonight, you can select new charms for a new day at the Galentine’s Sip + Shop Charm Bar at Handzy Shop + Studio.
Choose up to seven charms from the Charm Bar, which features an assortment of colors, shapes, sizes, and themes so you can create your own unique charm bracelet, necklace, bag charm, or keychain. Think of it as little life stories or personal statements dangling on your wrist, neck, or attached to a favorite accessory.
The evening includes free sips and snacks, live music, and mini pop-ups (like tarot readings).
Tonight is Galentine’s Ladies Night in the Loft at Braxton Brewing Co., and your ticket includes an array of goodness: A catered dinner by Dewey’s Pizza, bottomless select cocktails, your favorite Braxton beer and wine, bingo, dancing with DJ Nat Jones, a photo backdrop where you can pose with the “cutest balloon arch,” and a chance to win an igloo reservation.
As if all that weren’t enough, there will be a Hat Bar where you create your own custom hat.
Drink specials, Valentine’s Day cocktails, and heart-shaped snacks await you on Friday at Old Kentucky Bourbon Bar’s OKBB Is For Lovers: A Valentine’s Day.
And because the folks at OKBB know that love does not shine gloriously on everyone, there will also be a “Get-Over-Your-Ex” playlist available for love’s victims.
You can commence to celebrate or dwell in sorrow and regret as early as 2 p.m.
On Saturday, folks from Kentucky Tenants, a tenant-led organization that fights for safe, high quality, affordable housing, and the NKY Chapter of Kentuckians for the Commonwealth are coming together with needle, thread, and thoughtful discussion.
What Home Means to Us – Quilt Workshop at Kenton County Public Library is a collective sharing of housing experiences through the creation of a community quilt. You’ll design your own narrative-based quilt square using plant-dyed fabric.
No previous quilting experience necessary to participate.
