Poetry, mysteries & toe beans

COVINGTON, Ky. – Lots of fun to be had in The Cov this weekend.

There are poetry readings, book signings, a worthy fundraiser, lots of great live music, a board game event, trivia, a wine tasting, farmers market, Easter brunches, and more.

Celebrate the spoken poetic word

Tonight’s Poetry & Light Bites Night at Juniper’s is a timely event, because April is National Poetry Month.

Featuring poetry readings followed by open mic poetry, the event beckons you to gather all those pages of poems that you’ve written but have been squirreling away, and let others finally hear what’s been stirring in your soul.

Beneficial brews

Here’s your chance to do something good for others while you sip a cool brew.

On Friday, Braxton Brewing Co. is hosting a Bike4Briar Pint Night Fundraiser to raise awareness and funds for Angelman Syndrome, a rare neurogenetic disorder that occurs in one in 15,000 live births, or 500,000 people worldwide (among them, a really cool kid named Briar). The syndrome can cause walking and balance disorders, seizures, lack of speech, and more.

Every pint that Braxton sells at the event on Friday will contribute to the Bike4Briar Fundraiser, which is focused on providing funding for research, advocacy, and family support for those affected by Angelman Syndrome. And you’re in for a treat, because Briar, the little girl inspiring this effort, will be there to meet everyone.

The 3 big Ms

Of course we’re talking about murder, mystery, and masterpieces.

Purple Paisley, Local Artisan Shop has all three on Saturday at its Murder, Mystery, and Masterpieces: Book Signing with Dr. Kathy Hendley.

Hendley will do a reading from the first book in her Teachers Lounge Series, Murder in the Masterpiece: A Teacher’s Deadly Lesson. She’ll follow that up with a discussion and book signing.

Boopable noses and toe beans

How does your cat rate on nose boops? Toe beans (those soft pink pads on a cat’s feet)? Chonkiness?  And what about its floofiness? Find out on Saturday when Dr. Matt McGlasson – Purrfect Day Cat Café’s favorite cat-lebrity – visits the café and signs his new book, “How to Rate a Cat.”

McGlasson, who’s veterinary practice is in Kentucky, is among social media’s favorite feline veterinarians. There’s a good chance you’ve seen his fun cat videos and wisdom on all things feline in Newsweek, NBC News, The New York Post, The Dodo, and a whole array of media outlets.

“How to Rate a Cat” Book Signing with Dr. Matt McGlasson at Purrfect Day Cat Café is your first step to becoming a bona fide expert cat rater, and that will make your cat proud (which, as you know, is hard to do).
